Biography

Jeffrey Shield is a twelve-year-old Australian pianist who has already performed extensively across Australia, Europe, and the United States.

In 2026, Jeffrey participated in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition (Junior) in Salt Lake City, USA. In 2025, at age eleven, he made his orchestral debut in Italy, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra of the Conservatory of Modena, conducted by Maestro Matteo Parmeggiani, in Bologna and Modena – a major milestone in his young musical career.

Jeffrey’s musical journey has taken him to Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, and the United States for concerts, competitions, and masterclasses. He has performed at Kawai Place in Warsaw in a recital organised by the Fryderyk Chopin Society, at the Winners’ Concert of the International Piano Competition Enschede in the Netherlands, and at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia, Poland. In 2026, he was also invited to the historic Steinway & Sons factory in Hamburg, Germany, where he was filmed and interviewed as part of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation’s 50th anniversary project.

Jeffrey’s international achievements include the Grand Prix at the International Paderewski Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland and multiple prizes at the International Piano Competition Enschede in the Netherlands. In Australia, he has received numerous titles and major awards, including being named West Australian Pianist of the Year in both 2025 and 2026 and Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra Young Artist 2026.

Having appeared in hundreds of public performances, Jeffrey has developed a wide-ranging repertoire spanning Baroque, Classical, Romantic, twentieth-century, and contemporary music. His repertoire includes works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Glinka, Grieg, Moszkowski, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Balakirev, Bartók, and Hamelin, ranging from Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, BWV 903; Chopin’s études, Barcarolle, and Ballade; sonatas by Beethoven, Schumann, and Prokofiev; Schumann’s Carnaval; Balakirev’s Islamey; and Hamelin’s Toccata on “L’homme armé.”

Jeffrey began learning the piano at age six and currently studies with Yoon Sen Lee and Ivy Chan at the Yoon Sen Lee Music School in Perth, Australia. He was awarded the Associate Diploma (ATCL) and Licentiate Diploma (LTCL) in piano performance from Trinity College London, both with Distinction, at the ages of nine and ten, respectively. He is currently pursuing the Fellowship Diploma (FTCL) in piano performance. Jeffrey has also participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists and teachers, including Ingrid Fliter, Alexander Gavrylyuk, and Professor Bronisława Kawalla.

For Jeffrey, music is about far more than competitions and awards. A genuine curiosity drives him to discover new repertoire, develop his artistry, and share music with audiences.

His performances have received more than three million views on YouTube, allowing his music to reach listeners worldwide. As he continues to grow as a young musician, Jeffrey aims to deepen his understanding of music, learn from leading artists and teachers, and share the joy of classical music with ever-wider audiences.
